composing a neat and tidy post about the once-ler, why ask blogs work, and why you should shut the heck up about the fandom being a family and feeling entitled to attention due to that sole factor (ps, again, the once-ler’s family. why are we saying we’re a family when there are lacks of father figures and heavy dysfunction in a lot of the families shown in the movie THIS JUST FEELS LIKE A TERRIBLE COMPARISON RIPE W/DISASTER)

i get that it was comparatively nicer bc you knew everyone, sure, but as people get added w/different personalities, it shows how encompassing the fandom can be and the variety of people who exist within it, which i think is very beautiful and stuff and NO, we’re not all going to agree, but its bc theres such an amount of people, who like different aspects of the movie and no one is asking you to have to agree with them, by all means i fuckin hate 90% of oncest, and i dislike a lot of drama that arises, but people seem to think we’re a family they kind of force themselves to look at things they dont like or dont agree with, because omg we’re suPPOSED 2 BE CLOSE!!! when no, we’re not supposed to be close because everyone says we’re a “family,” we’re just a group of people who liked the same movie that has a lot of aspects to pick up on.

Arguing what ship is ‘more canon’ over other ships is like this to me:

It is when you are visiting a relative you do not know very well and you walk into her house to find the shelves covered in unicorn figurines. Instead of taking it in stride, and recognizing that clearly unicorns make her ridiculously happy, you berate her about how unicorns aren’t real. You state facts, trying to blanket your arguments by starting statements with ‘I have nothing against unicorns, but...’

Your relative may be offended, because, yeah she knows they’re not real, but that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy them.

But then you start in to all these facts about how imaginary unicorns are, and how stupid she must be to letting herself enjoy them.

And then to top it all off, you end your argument with, “But you know what is totally more real than unicorns? Mermaids.”
